In this tumultuous time of the comics, passions are running high. That's a good thing. I didn't set out to violently shake-up the status quo thinking it'd go over perfectly fine with everyone. I set out to upset and to unnerve, and thus far it's looks like I've succeeded. (Some folks out there are already guessing in the ballpark of my long-term plans, but you can only fool some of the people some of the time)
As upset as some readers are - and rightfully so - I will not tolerate a total lack of class. I've had folks contact me individually who've voiced their concern, even their anger, in clear terms without resorting to foul language and physical threats. Anger does not excuse such childishness. So if you can't make your point without without devolving into profanity, I'm hiding your comment. I'll read, it I'll keep it accessible so your point will remain, but I'm not cluttering up my front page with your filthy language.
As for what's going on in the book, I'm going to have to have as much patience as the readers. I know what's going to happen in the long run, and I know how this will all look when it's finished. I'm excited for you guys, because you get to experience the thrill of it month by month. Because of that, I can't explain what's happening, because that'll ruin the surprises I'm working on preparing for y'all.
The best comparison I can make (without totally spoiling the entire ride) is to the original Star War trilogy. In "Empire Strikes Back," Han is captured, Cloud City has been occupied by the Empire, Luke's been maimed and had his faith shattered, and the Rebellion has done pretty much nothing but lose for the entire movie. If it had ended there, I'd imagine there'd be some outcry - but it didn't. Fans of the series had faith in their heroes and believed that, somehow, they'd come back from all that. Likewise, the comic isn't stopping anytime soon. I'm doing my best to throw the heroes from the comfort zone they've lingered in for 250+ issues. Have a little faith that Mobius's greatest heroes can endure.
(Disclaimer: I realize "comfort zone" is a blanket statement, e.g. Sally's near-death in #50 and King Max's dissolving of the team, but I'm referring to the general sense of "The Freedom Fighters Never Lose (Big/In The End).")
Obviously this isn't going to satisfy everyone. Some of you will take this as me blowing smoke or placating, and I can't help that. Some are buckling in for the adventure, excited about what's to come (if a little unsure). Others don't want anything to happen to their favorites. There's no meeting in the middle on that one.
I've got grand, sweeping plans folks. This just the beginning.
And the usual reminders:
- I don't have time to correspond to every venue online while writing four books, so take it to the fourm: www.bumbleking.com/forum
- Don't post full scans of issues, that's stealing. If you're outside the U.S./Canada, try working with your local book vendor or online shops (or the Sonic App - www.archiecomics.com)
- this DA account is used for following a few artists and friends, and sometimes a piece of concept art. My online correspondence is focused on the Facebook Page/Twitter/Forum/Website - all of that accessible from here: www.bumbleking.com

i like it
It's just not moving forward properly at all as it should be after reading 238.
So what if I replied to your comment? Is that now a crime?
Besides, I doubt Ian is going to answer it anyway since it would probably give something of the storyline away if he did.
I think may have some ideas that might help. Unless, you prefer to carry on with your ideas and see if they get better.
Sometimes fans have the best of ideas for a series.
remember saying this to me?
"Eferno,
I cannot accept fan ideas.
Ian"
I was implying I didn't want to hear that immature, "If you don't like it, don't read the comic." line.
People who say that obviously are very intolerant individuals who can't handle a little constructive criticism.
But, I've told these ideas to friends of mine(and by friends, I mean the ones who aren't members of DeviantART) and they think they're worthy to be told to be SEGA and Sonic the hedgehog(Archie comic) material.
So, uh, maybe it's best if I were to discuss some of them through notes!
Sorry bout that. I hear alot of Ian's fanbase replies to any valid criticism or concern with that stuff.
Sure, tell me through a note.
Oh, and be sure to hide these comments. There are alot of plagiarists who may be onto me. They're probably trying to hack into our systems and get intell on us RIGHT NOW!!
Is Princess Sally Acorn created by Archie/Dic and is now owned by Sega of Japan? My reasons for asking you that is because a lot of fans were debating about who owns her or who created her and there was never a clear answer. I only know that Sega asked Ken Penders to bring Sally and Robotnik back when he made an End Game series because they were planning to use her in the future games(which they never made and it was cancelled for whatever reason) but that's all I know of. Also, if Sega of Japan does own Sally and other characters, could they add them to the games if they wanted to but they didn't? I
'm not asking for SaTAM/Archie characters to be in the games since I know they won't do it, I just wanted to know since you mentioned about Sega's restrictions of characters and it would be great if you could answer me that question instead of just getting misinformation from others. Thank you.
SEGA owns everything related to the Sonic license, so ultimately Sally belongs to them.
Sally was created as part of the DiC production SatAM and they own the rights to airing the old show as far as I know (along with Shout Factory for the DVDs)
Archie has the license to produce Sonic comics in the US/Canada, and we can pull just about anything we want from the franchise per SEGA's approval.
There may be some details and nuances I don't know about, but that's my understanding of the situation.
But there's another question about her. A lot of Archie/SaTAM fans wanted Sally in the games since she only made a cameo appearance in Sonic Spinball special stages and she was supposed to be in the future games but it never got made and was canceled. Is there a reasons why Sega did not want her to be in a games? A lot of other fans think that Sega hates Sally but I don't think that's the case and that there may be other reasons why, hence why I'm asking you since now that you mentioned that Sega owns her.
I'm not asking for Sally to be in the games by the way despite I'm a Sally fan, I just wanted to know the reasons why she couldn't be used in the games and I prefer you to answer them since your in contact with Sega.
And I thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I hope I wasn't being too bothersome to you.
All I can speculate at is that SEGA changed their collective mind back then.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, I hope I'm not annoying you too much with Sally related questions.
You're welcome. Anything else, you ought to take to my forum. But you asked a lot of good, pointed questions. Hopefully folks will read them and get the answers they seek too.
I hope so too.
The people who say that she is dead are just being over dramitc so pay them no mind.
It's confusing that you get a lot of hate mail for just doing what you do best. They act like the things you've done are worse than what the original writers put up, and I know they've been worse off. Like the aforementioned Endgame, Sally was to be killed off permanently. But Sega stepped in and forced them to rewrite her as being put in a coma.
Perhaps you're not allowed to do that since you work for them, but if you can, I'd like to see it from you originally had in mind.
It may just make those who think all these stories they hate are you doing are really the meddling of Sega and your editor.
What I mean to ask is, what is that you said about Silver being a son/descendant/whatever of Shadow and Amy?
And not only that, Shadow can't have kids anyway XD DNA doesn't match and all that.
Silver most likely isn't related to any of the present characters.
I think you're doing an amazing job.
I must read these comics. O_O
These stories are no longer entertaining, they're annoying-everytime a 'shocking' event or revelation happens I just think; 'Meh, whatever...'
After all the shock in the past few issues, nothing really phases me anymore.
Fiona is staying evil forever, but St. John has a chance of still being good?
I just can't accept double-standards like that.
I ain't here talking trash about you I promise I just want to tell you how you inspire me, The way you write is amazing I don't think the archie comics could have gotten a better writer then you yourself, I can be as upset as I want about Sally but I know you'll fix things, Your an amazing writer and the best of the Archie comics I one day hope to be an artist of something, and hope to be as brilliant as you
I hope one day to meet you in person to get your autograph
Your always: Mellie
I have been telling so many people this same info! I tell them "It makes us mad because that's what it's supposed to do! It makes us want to discuss and read on!"
But no! No one EVER wants to consider that thought!
Keep up the good work Flynn! I think ur doing great!
